What are SCI noodles?

SCI noodles are known for their gentle cleansing and foaming properties. It is often used as a primary or co-surfactant in various cosmetic and personal care products, such as shampoos, body wash, facial cleansers and bars in solid form, such as shampoo bars, body bars and cleansing bars.

Benefits of SCI needles

  • This noodle shape offers several advantages in formulating products. It provides excellent foam and foam stability even in hard water. SCI noodles are also considered gentle on the skin, making it suitable for sensitive skin types. It can help cleanse the skin without causing excessive dryness or irritation.
  • In addition to its cleansing properties, SCI needles can contribute to the overall sensory experience of the product by providing a creamy and luxurious lather. It can also help improve the texture and stability of solid formulas.
  • How to use Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate or SCI noodles

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) is a mild and sulfate-free surfactant often used in soaps, shampoos, shower gels and other cosmetic cleaning products. Here are general usage guidelines for working with SCI noodles:

    1. Safety: When working with noodle ingredients, always wear protective clothing, gloves and goggles to avoid skin and eye contact.

    2. Dosage: The recommended dosage of SCI needles may vary depending on the specific product you are making. It is generally recommended to use 5% to 50% SCI noodles in your formulation. Start with a lower dosage and gradually adjust until you achieve the desired texture and foaminess.
-Shower gel/shampoo: about 5-20%, for a clear emulsion use up to 6% SCI. A higher percentage makes the emulsion opaque.
      -Bath products/ shampoo bar: 10-60%
      -Facial cleansers 1-5%.

    3. Dispersion: To avoid clumps, it is important to properly disperse the SCI noodles. Slowly add the noodles to the liquid (usually water) while stirring or mixing.

    4. Heating: SCI noodles are best processed at low temperatures, preferably below 50°C, to avoid melting and sticking together. Use a double boiler or low-heat heating method to melt the noodles.

    5. Formulation: After dispersing the SCI noodles, you can add other ingredients such as oils, butters, dyes, fragrances and any other active ingredients according to your recipe.

    6. Foaming: SCI is known for its rich, stable and creamy foam formation. Stir the mixture gently to minimize air bubbles and avoid excessive stirring to prevent the foam from collapsing.

    7. Storage: Store finished products in a cool, dry place and protected from moisture to maintain quality.

    8. Testing: Always perform small test batches before making larger quantities. This helps you understand the process and performance of your formulation before investing in larger production.

    9. Labeling: Be sure to list all ingredients on the product label, including Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, to inform customers what is in your product.
