How do you make a container candle?

A container candle is a type of candle that is poured into a container, such as a glass jar, can or bowl. Here is a general guide to making a container candle:

Supplies:

  1. Container of candle wax (soy wax, beeswax, kerosene, etc.).
  2. Wick
  3. Fragrant oil (optional)
  4. Dye (optional)
  5. Container (glass jar, can, bowl, etc.).
  6. Wick glue tip, double-sided tape or wick holder
  7. Thermometer
  8. Melting or pouring pan (preferably stainless steel)
  9. Stirrer
  10. Wick centering aid
  11. Scissors

Steps:

  1. Preparation:
    • Make sure you have the right wax! There are 2 types of wax: conatiner wax or pillar wax
    • Make sure the container is clean and dry.
    • Use the appropriate thickness of a wick. The thickness depends on the diameter of the container. You can find the correct thickness on the wick page in the table.
    • Measure the height of the container and cut the wick slightly longer than the container height. Attach the wick to the center of the bottom of the container with a small piece of double-sided tape or a wick holder.
  2. Melting wax:
    • Melt the candle wax in a melting or pouring pan over low heat. Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the laundry and make sure it does not overheat.
  3. Adding fragrance and color (optional):
    • If you want to add scented oil and food coloring, gently mix them into the melted wax. The amount of fragrance and color depends on your personal preference and the type of wax you use.
  4. Casting wax:
    • Allow the melted wax to cool slightly to about 55-65 degrees Celsius.
    • Carefully pour the melted wax into the prepared container, making sure the wick stays in the center and straight up. Leave a small space at the top (about 1 cm).
  5. Curing:
    • Allow the candle to harden completely. This may take several hours, depending on the size of the candle and the ambient temperature.
  6. Adjustments:
    • If the top of the candle is not completely smooth after curing, you may choose to pour a second layer of melted wax to make the surface more even.
  7. Finish:
    • Cut the excess wick to about 1 cm above the surface of the candle.
  8. Burn:
    • Let the candle harden for a few days before lighting it. This helps to get better combustion.
    • Light the wick and enjoy your homemade container candle!

Remember that candle making and working with melted wax requires heat and caution.
