What is the INCI of a perfume?

You can create the INCI name from the Allergen documentation. The INCI consists out of the following:

  • Rinse Off Limit in Finished Products: if > 0.01 % must be listed on ingredient list Rinse Off products would be soap, shampoo etc. Products you wash off your skin
  • Leave-On Limit in Finished Products: If > 0.001 % must be listed on ingredient list . Leave-On would be loation etc.
  • The name Perfume or Aroma

For example, look at the ALLERGEN of the fragrance Comfort Joy

Allergen of Comfort Joy

Allergen/CAS Percentage
Benzyl alcohol (CAS No 100-51-6) 0.1260
Benzyl benzoate (CAS No 120-51-4) 4.5007
Citral (CAS No 5392-40-5) 0.0636
Coumarin (CAS No 91-64-5) 3.5600
Eugenol (CAS No 97-53-0) 11.0000
Linalool (CAS No 78-70-6) 0.0036

The INCI for soap would be:

INCI: Perfume, Benzyl alcohol, Benzyl benzoate, Citral, Coumarin, Eugenol

The INCI for a lotion would be:

INCI: Perfume, Benzyl alcohol, Benzyl benzoate, Citral, Coumarin, Eugenol, Linalool

This is how it is agreed upon in the EU. The reason of this is that “Perfume”could be a trademarked secret, but the consumer needs to know which products are in the perfume which can cause allergies.
